Go Forth and Multiply

pexels-photo-69096.jpeg

On my way to my doctor’s appointment, yesterday, I sat in the passenger seat listening to our local Southern Gospel radio station with my mom. Well, kinda of listening but not really. My thoughts and focus elsewhere. If you were to ask me right now what I had been thinking on or focusing on I couldn’t tell you. Obviously nothing important as tends to happen with me. Often too focused on or thinking about nothing important. As we neared my doctors, stopping at a red light, the singer on the radio managed to pull my attention away from the window I stared out. His words grabbing and sinking into me with a force I immediately took out my pen and a piece of scrap paper to scribble down his lyrics. I have no idea what the song was about, or what any of his other lyrics said, but the ones I heard were pretty powerful. Worthy of hearing and sharing. Important to share with others in a crazy hectic world full of violence, hatred, and darkness. Where what we say can either give life or death to the souls of those around us. He Is a Shield Unto Them That Put Their Trust in Him.

The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” —Jeremiah 31:3 KJV

Several times now, I’ve experienced something that has caused me to pause and ponder and doubt, questioning myself and giving way to the enemy’s lies allowing them to penetrate and wound. Lowering my shield, yet again. (Ephesians 6:17) I admit I’m really horrible at lowering my shield, too lazy or tired to hold it high in the midst of this spiritual battle we face daily. No longer the fierce warrior I started out as but just another spectator, it feels like, on the battlefield trying not to get caught by a passing fist, dart, attack on those around me. Every now and then a familiar voice, stern yet loving, calls out to me, “lift your shield! Continue reading “He Is a Shield Unto Them That Put Their Trust in Him.”

It’s Not About Me, It’s About Him

God has had a lot on my mind lately. God’s been constantly bringing it to my attention that it’s not about us it’s all about Him. Matthew chapter 6:33 says,

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Lest a Worse Thing Come Unto Thee.

“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.” —— Matthew 12:43-45 KJV

Stand Unshaken

pexels-photo-136351

Despite the troubles and disruption and chaos and uncertainties of life stand unshaken upon that rock which is Jesus Christ. Wield your sword at the enemy. Use your shield. Remain humble throughout your battles, for they’re not yours, but the Lords. Above all, know when to stand still.

Do You Want to Get Well?

pexels-photo-237353

Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” — John 5:2-6 NIV

On my phone which no longer has service is The Bible app from YouVersion. With this version come a whole caboodle of devotions that you can sign up to participate in. (Who doesn’t need a good devotion or two… or ten every now and then?) Sadly it has gone unused since March sometime, and I have fallen extremely behind on my daily devotional plans. So, this afternoon as I watched my husband leave off for work from his lunch break I felt a little bummed at his leaving and just sat on the bed not sure what to do, kind of wishing he would have made me one of his famous lists of “Things to do”, that I dislike so much.
